SONIX is on a Beta version stage. It already has lots of features and is already used by Pro gamers, but we never know, maybe you'll encounter some small bugs left and right. If that happens, please don't stay silent, tell us! Here is the place to do so in our SONIX community bug report sub-crew
End-to-end latency (from mouth to ear) is what matters. Most people focus on the "ping" (= network latency round trip from your computer to a server), but in today's high performance network environment, this value is actually negligeable most of the time as 90% of the game-play are being done with other gamers in less than 2'000 miles.
The software audio pipeline is the main source of latency today, and this is where SONIX excel. The Swiss tech team is span-off fom one of the world's most expert University laboratory in audio and network. It took 8 years to develop that technology alone!
We optimized absolutely everything along the way:
- Audio CODEC & mixing with the Game sound
- Data packeting
- Network Jitter management
- Packet loss reconstruction
The only thing we don't touch is your network. We run on top of your standard home/mobile network
Still not convince that latency matter ? We did a world premiere in 2022 in partnership with the Montreux Jazz Festival, the most famous Jazz festival in the world: a pro-band, split over two countries were playing live, as if they were on the stage stage, during the festival, in front of the fans.
We're a tight-knit group of lifelong gamers, audio/VoIP experts, and entrepreneurs in the AR/VR/Gaming space. Despite our small team (10p versus 1000p at Discord), we pack a punch. Why? Because we prioritize what matters: listening to gamers, pro to casuals, and collaborating closely with gaming orgs like Esports teams and game developers. And when we say we listen, we mean it. We're not just nodding heads; we're actively implementing their needs at lightning speed.
We have four key missions:
- Performance: Deliver the best technology to help gamers perform at their peak
- Gamification: Make interaction and engagement fun, personalized, 3D, and playable. We empower gamers, brands, and content creators to build gamified interactions
- Supporting Creators, Brands, & Esports Teams: Many players in the gaming industry struggle financially, with limited means to generate revenue from their fans. SONIX introduces the first-ever digital asset marketplace, enabling creators to sell skins and fans to show their support by using those skins on their avatars
- Protecting Privacy and Preventing Harassment: Harassment is all too common in other communication apps. SONIX was designed from day one as a safe-by-design app, giving you control over who joins your crew and full ownership of your data, from creation to deletion. Learn more in our Privacy Policy.
Settings to check before anything else
We have put a large number of audio settings in the App, covering noise cancelling, sensitivity, gain control and noise background reduction. So if you have any issues, the first thing to do is go into the “audio settings” menu and check all the settings. Gamers’ settings can vary a bit depending on headset brand and quality, on background noise etc… A fine-tuning can enhance your audio experience tremendously!
Check the input/output device settings
Depending on your Operating System, sometimes the default device selection for sound settings is not the one you want to use, and another one is selected instead. To check this we made your life simpler: check if your headset input/output audio source are the right ones, right name, from the drop-down menu. Then simply click on the “Test Input” (you speak and you are going to hear yourself back if things work well), then on “Test Output” (you will hear a sound if things work well).By clicking on the “heart” next to your listed input/output audio device, it will now become the default on SONIX whenever it is plugged in again.Be cool to us: audio is very complex. Don’t forget that even Google with their thousands of software engineers have not found an universal solution to avoid the typical “I can’t hear you” at the beginning of a voicechat
Check for mute/unmute & check your Push-to-Talk
Check if you didn’t mute yourself or your friend, and check your Push-to-Talk configuration.
Check the microphone sensitivity
If the Push To Talk option is disabled, you can select the microphone sensitivity in order for your voice to be detected and sent through the app. Setting a too high sensitivity means that you need to speak really loud, and it may not detect your voice correctly. Make sure you’ve set the correct sensitivity based on your voice and environment (a low sensitivity may catch unwanted background noise).
Check the volume settings
We provided both the option of global call volume setting but also individual player setting (click on the three dot that will magically appear on the bottom of your friends' icon)
